Forgotten Memories
Mallet Quartet
Forgotten Memories was written for the Portland Percussion Group's A Call for Scores competition. It is written for 4 players on 3 instruments - (2 marimbas and 1 vibraphone). The players move around and share the instruments with each other. People have a habit of suppressing or forgetting memories, some good and some bad. Occasionally something may resurface in the back of our mind and overtime it pushes its way forward and we cannot help but think about it. Forgotten Memories starts out using the back ends of the mallets to make the music and memories sound distant. As the piece progresses it starts to utilize the traditional method of playing with the mallets, thus making the music and memories seem closer.
