Moonstorm

for Flute and Vibraphone

Moonstorm utilizes two metallic sounding instruments in the flute and vibraphone.  It is both a variation and a pandiatonic piece.  Much of this piece was composed using one melodic idea and chord progression.  Some inspiration was taken from Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Paganini’s Caprice No. 24.  The piece is programatic in a way to visualize the cold moonlight and what dangers could be hiding in the shadows.

Moonstorm was premiered by Quinn Oteman and myself on April 17, 2014
