Parsnips

Xylophone Solo

Parsnips was written for Liz Parsons and was inspired by the video game Banjo-Kazooie. The piece is meant to sound fun and imitate the silly nature of the game. This is accomplished by cutting the scale in half by utilizing the diminished fifth scale degree and by its use of chromaticism and quick rhythmic figures.

Parsnips was premiered by members of the UWM percussion studio with Liz Parsons as the soloist on May 2, 2015
